I like landscape photos where I'm alone in the woods. But my second favorite thing is landscape photos that peel back the magic and show you the crowd of people that came to look at the thing. As people get shittier about masking, I'm going to be avoiding things like this as much as possible, but I have pleasant memories of when crowds were lower risk.

At a certain point after I start to worry if staying later to take more photos is going to cause me to meet a or an . On top of I don't normally let that worry cause me to pack it in before the light has done it's thing. But on the quieter trails farther away from people with bear warnings posted on them...

One more from that sunset on Saturday. The actual sunset photos are coming, but the view from this top in the other directions is pretty nice too. is a or in Japanese poetry, so it shows up in Japanese photography a lot, partially because the people gardening in photogenic areas know that it's a kigo.

Last winter, I found a quiet day near the solstice to go to the top of to watch the . It wasn't as crowded as it was this year, and people were better about wearing mask in 2021 than in 2022, but it was still crowded enough that I didn't try for diamond Fuji from the top of Takao this year. I hiked a different trail, and I could hear how crowded Takao was from the trail around the peak that I chose to avoid that crowd.

This time when I was shooting, I was intentionally shooting wider than I have been lately, to get that in that people including myself think ruins the view of . Someone I know though said it was a highlight of the scene, and now I don't know how I feel about it. But it's there, and it's not leaving, so I might as well take a picture.

Ten years ago was a good time to picnic on top of for sunset. It was quiet, the view was beautiful, and it was a good balance between accessibility and nature.

This is an old photo from back when blowing through a roll of film was a significantly smaller financial investment.
