New study: "Most journals [in #biology] offer minimal support for scientists whose first language is not English…Only 8% of the journals made their complete guidelines to authors available in at least one language other than English; less than 7% allowed authors to publish articles in languages other than English; and a mere 10% explicitly approved the use of references published in a language other than English."

You're right. See this thread for more detail, including the fact that most journals missing from #DOAJ (not counting low-quality journals deliberately excluded) are #DiamondOA and not published in English (#MultilingualResearch).

DOAJ knows this and wants to be more comprehensive. But many journals, esp in these two categories, can't afford the enhancements needed to qualify for DOAJ.

I think #multilingual #search is an unsolved problem. I haven't seen initiatives or guidelines to mitigate the problem, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.
