I was glad to see this *Indy* article digging into the mess of politics, but the author spends a LOT of time spreading rumors and quoting people on topics they are not trustworthy about. It reinforces the 'progressive white folks versus older Black folks' trope, and is not that helpful in shining actual sunlight on things. But I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Mayor of :
"The debate over closing a specific stretch of Queen Elizabeth Driveway is not about whether or not the city supports active transportation. It’s about where and when are the best opportunities for it."

Me:
Summer is exactly the best time to convert roadways into active use routes.

Think of a little piece of land, ten feet on a side. What could you do with that? Live on it, for one thing, with no need to pay anyone, landlord, bank, or government, for the privilege. Unfettered access to even a small piece of land can immediately double your income or allow you to work half as much. ... You could conduct all kinds of economic activities, support yourself and maybe your family. Make your contribution to the dazzling, intricate, miraculous informal economic life of Los Angeles without risking everything by breaking laws ... What if a whole community had unfettered access to a bigger piece of land? What could they do with that?

Absolutely fuck LA City Council for cancelling telephone comments in committee meetings. They're not just killers, they also want to be loved! If they can't be loved they can at least make you shut up, and that's what they're doing.

I love the way that local journalists in cover municipal affairs with honesty and education. This is another great piece by Matt Stickland:

Here's what happened at HRM council's March 7 meeting | City | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

Another masterclass in journalistic reporting on from & Matt Stickland: "If Amazon had come to Halifax and had gotten the proffered tax breaks, then it would have been subsidized by our taxes while also extorting extra tax money out of us through the library budget".

"“The province seems intent on taking away our ability to do business as usual,” said Coun. Amber Morley (Ward 3 Etobicoke-Lakeshore), “and to empower (the province) to ultimately be the decision-makers, so we have to navigate that.”"
