Lots of things behind it but I’m sure one is redirection of hate from immigrants and muslims. That doesnt give the far right enough traction in Aus any more. Shift the focus get more people out, make it appear as if society is crumbling and they are the only saviours, great media coverage and support in the #MurdochGutterMedia generates more recruits.
Unfortunately when people are struggling with rents, mortgages, food, poor pay and life in general they look around and see billionaires and CEO’s taking millions and the politicians doing nothing, they find targets to release their anger on and the far right are good at harnessing this and directing it.

“…non-monetary goods or services, including "non-public opposition research, provided to a candidate free of charge or at a discount for campaign purposes, is defined under the campaign finance law as an in-kind contribution, subject to the reporting requirements and contribution limits."

The maximum penalty for such a "prohibited corporate contribution" is five years in prison and fines of 200% of the value of the contribution.

The Trump campaign broke the law by not disclosing the contribution.
