Setting sun at Muriwai beach (2022). Auckland's West Coast beaches often generate some lovely sunsets. However, they are still cut off from visitors after the devastation of Cyclone Gabrielle.

Here I've slowed the shutter peed a smidgeon to produce some motion lines in the surf.

Auckland Emergency Management (AEM) said it was ordering any residents on Domain Crescent to leave their house now (on Friday midday) and walk on foot down the hill.

AEM deputy controller Rachel Kelleher said: "Go on foot. Do not take a car."

Urgent from Police for people on MOTUTARA ROAD at MURUWAI - Evacuate to the Surf Club now. Those to the north of 140 Motutara Rd go to the Surf Club via Oaia Road. Those to the south of 140 Motutara Rd go south to the Surf Club. Those from Domain Rd go south to the Surf Club.

Overnight updates: widespread power outages, flooding, fallen trees & slips ertc, and road diversions or closures continues across the North Island regions hardest hit. More evacuations overnight too (#Muriwai folks, hope you're OK).

General advice if you're in badly affected areas is don't travel unless you have to. Take extreme care, check local info first & avoid floodwaters. Be prepared to evacuate if needed & know where to go if you can't move to family & friends.
