The passing of the great #MurrayMelvin is truly distressing. He was a wonderful actor, utterly committed to something new and exciting. His continued presence at the Theatre Royal wasn't just a nostalgist exercise, even when he was one of only a couple of people there who went back to the Littlewood days: he was in the house for new shows, checking the audiences, catching your eye as if to ask 'What do you think?' in that completely serious and honest Littlewood way. His presence was a commitment to the theatre's future as well as its past and present. A great man.
Sad to hear the great, unique #MurrayMelvin has passed. The English film, television and theatre actor / director and author collaborated memorably with Ken Russell, Tony Richardson, Peter Medak, Stanley Kubrick and Lewis Gilbert, often as repressed and offbeat characters, including Father Mingnon in #TheDevils (1971) and the owner of a haunted mansion in Stephen Weeks' distinctive #GhostStory (1974).
