A #Muscovy #Duck at Wells #Park in #Melbourne, #Florida. A large duck pond sits behind the local library, and is home to a host of #Waterfowl, including the #MuscovyDuck. The Muscovy is native to much of the Americas and parts of Europe, but not the Principality of #Muscovy (Moscow).
The name may be a European-ized version of the name of the #Muisca tribe of #IndigenousPeople of the #Americas, who raised the #bird.
Alternatively, the name may be like the name of the turkey, suggestive of an exotic place, but one with no connection to the #animal.

While I have seen many of these ducks, I find this plumage to be the most striking.

I really love doing portrait style shots out in the wild with the various birds and ducks I see.
I occasionally go down to the wetland area near downtown Raleigh and I always see a few of these ducks hanging out on the railings. I will post their male counterpart a bit later today
