For the first time since I joined Mastodon, today I gave a press interview and had the chance to mention Mastodon in my self-promotion spiel.

The experience was so novel that I forgot to also plug my Bandcamp. D'oh!

(In my defense, I also had four upcoming live shows to promote, which is way more than I usually have on the schedule.)

Happy new year! My 2022 ended up being impossibly busy, but I managed to write three new songs in December. One was a Song Fight! entry, and I'm planning to debut the other two at my favorite open mic tomorrow night. @orangegmusic offered to play some harmonica on one of them, so I think it'll be a great performance!

I missed my favorite open mic two weeks in a row, but went back last night, which was nice. Several of the people there asked "How have you been?" And I had fun answering them by showing them this photo.

This morning, I performed a dry run of my two-hour set list for Saturday's concert, including a ten minute intermission.

I had timed it pretty close! The first half ran a little long, so I'm cutting two songs. The second half ended spot-on the two-hour mark after accounting for the song cuts.

After a busy Thanksgiving week, I was finally able to block off some music practice time yesterday. Not just running through songs, but proper practice.

I spent over half an hour on a single tricky piano line. It feels fantastic to take a bit that's usually a little sloppy when I play it live, and hone it until it's right for once.
