This is just pareidolia but I like how the Fahrenheit scale and metronome markings are analogous.

60 to 80 bpm is considered a comfortable tempo range and 70°F is considered a comfortable temperature.

Tempos below 50 bpm seem slow and under 40 bpm is where most will tend to shift the beat to a smaller metrical level so as not to feel too slow. 32°F is freezing.

90 bpm to 120 bpm is considered fast and the same range is hot in Fahrenheit.

I swear I’m not high.

I love St. Lambert’s description of arpeggios on the #harpsichord, circa 1700:

“…doubling the parts one strikes all the notes again, one after another, with a continuous repetition, producing on the Harpsichord a crackling almost like musketry fire; but, after having made this agreeable charivari for three or four bars, one stops quite short some great harmonic chord (that is to say, without a dissonance) as though to recover from the exertion of making such a noise.”

I was curious to how standard SATB vocal ranges map on to different keys, as a means of understanding each key better in some way. Perhaps the interaction between vocal range and key structure colors our perception of key to some degree? That’s what I’m trying to see.

I spend a lot of time studying from 18th century music theory treatises. They often have some peculiar terms. One of my favorites comes from Heinichen who describes what we know of today as enharmonic respelling (e.g, rewriting Eb as D#) as “changing musical genders”.

Another author named Riepel uses the term “threesome” to describe phrases of three measures. His treatise it just littered with mentions of “threesomes”.
