So, Violinknitter, with all these dreams of the perfect #MusicTheory intro book/workbook for young string players, why haven’t you written it? Quite frankly b/c I’m not good enough at theory. I wouldn’t know a German 6th if it hit me over the head, let alone be able to explain the basics of jazz chord theory. & one of the reasons I’m not great at it is b/c I was taught from a keyboard instead of a violin perspective, so I had to translate everything myself for my own instrument. #MusicTeaching

I bought an easy melodica tune book to give my neighbor to help them learn.

But it's going to be too difficult for them.

It's got few pages at the front that describe music notation, then it's just full of tunes.

I am sure when I learned I spent months just getting the hang of the notation and very simple melodies, with the learning of the theory interspersed with learning the physicality of playing.

Oh well let's see how it goes.

It's not until you start trying to type out recital programs for young musicians that you realize just HOW bad beginning method books are at properly attributing melodies to their composers #ViolinLessons #MusicTeaching
