Many times, technology gets in the way of museum learning. At the John Brown Museum in Harpers Ferry, this ancient interactive asked real probing questions that were understandable and brought you into the abolitionist narrative.

There's plenty that could be improved here, but the issues addressed are real ones and the connections to our current moment were pretty clear - which may have some sad implications about progress as well as potential precience by the original designers.

Museums have their enduring traditions--both good and bad--and as I have often said, "there is nothing slower than museum time."

Museums are trying to overcome their centuries of rootedness in self-serving WEIRD superiority. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the arena of repatriation.

I've been asked to try to distill at least some of the debate and current conflicts for greater transparency. Here's a first go at doing this . . .
