I love watching black bears eat barnacles. I often wonder what the ratio of shells is to the amount of meat they digest and, just how many barnacles make up a bear's diet. I like the way they move their paws across a bed of barnacles and use their lips and tounges to lap up their meals.

On our way to Fords Terror, we ended up alongside this humpback whale for about a mile. It never dove deep and was visible just under the surface the whole time. We could watch it pump its fluke and move its long graceful flippers. It didn't seem to be in a hurry - just cruising on a flat calm sunny Alaska day in July.
