Got 2 brand new #MX500 #Crucial 1000GB with Firmware #M3CR045.
BOTH die on me the moment the bootloader is installed.
They recover when the data cable is disconnected for 5 minute (power must stay on!).
Apparently there is #M3CR046 fixing "a rare case" of hanging disk. Might be this. Might not. I can not even check, because I can not simply download the firmware. A ~200MB freakin TOOL by Crucial is needed for that.
Oh boy, that goes totally back to vendor. Fuck this shit.

Finally I replaced my 21 year old mouse - #Logitech #MX500 btw - against a new one. I mean it worked perfectly all the time, I never saw a need to buy one. But yesterday I thought I do it. To look how it is with more dpi and so on. And what can I say, almost night and day, haha, but 21 years ago it was high end you know. I invested 25€ for a #Razer and hope it will last the next 20 years 😁
Ok so, let's talk #Crucial #SSD drives, buggy #firmware, buggy support #software, and [maybe] a fix to unexpected drive hangs.
Backstory:
So I have a number of #MX500 1TB SSDs.
My older ones, perfectly fine. Rock solid no matter what I throw at them.
The newer ones that came with firmware version #M3CR045, not so much.
Apparently there's a bug {probably to do with #TRIM} in this firmware version that can cause the drive to "hang" or become unresponsive, requiring a power off/on to fix
