Wow, the last two episodes did take things from a semi-grounded 4 to like an 8, didn't it? They haven't revealed Lex Luthor yet, but we've already got a *clap* *clap* multiverse. This seems like way too early to drop something like the League of Lois Lanes (which I know was the point to really throw everything off to show just how weird Superman's life will be sometimes compared to the show's slower start), but I'm surprised to learn it's a brand new thing.

Also, an Akira Toriyama design showed up claiming to be Mr. Mxyzptlk! But I don't hate it. Only thing I was eh about was the forced inclusion of "the hat" later on, where they do that thing where they show the old design but then it transforms to fit the new character design better, but whatever. #myadventureswithsuperman #maws #tv #animation #impressions

Other quick thoughts:

Most of the villains starting off from the same "tech" design is an interesting setup, does make them feel a little homogenous at first, but some of them are getting warped by it as their origin. Not in love with Jimmy giving several of them their "wacky" names. Pretty strong restraint not even showing Lex Luthor yet, even though presumably it's his tech.

Episode 6 was a departure in designs, felt VERY TAS in comparison. But uh, introducing your most prominent gay couple so far of a hyper-intelligent gorilla and a brain in a robot that literally leave the planet together to find a place more tolerant is uhhhhhh probably well-intentioned but whoof if you think about it. But Superman stays behind because he wisely believes people there can be more accepting- yeah okay.

The show is slowly drifting towards The Animated Series, but they're leaning harder into Superman really trying to convince people to stop without getting into a fight, and more of the interpersonal stuff between Lois, Clark, and arguably Jimmy. I expected them to stretch out the "is he/isn't he" with Lois for longer with some fake-outs, but considering how much face time she's had with both it might've felt borderline insulting. Jimmy dropping the "of course I know" didn't feel earned though. On one hand of course he does, on the other hand that's not the character we were introduced to, and he hasn't shown himself to be the type to lead Lois on a wild goose chase about this. Was he hoping to push Clarm into revealing himself? There was the alarm clock moment you could argue, and covering for his weak excuses, but Jimmy's been pretty surface-level so far with everything. #MAWS #myadventureswithsuperman

Second ep of #MAWS down, and yeah. Felt more like Superman: The Animated Series this episode, including what I guess is Livewire. Which I think I preferred that character staying as the loose threat they were rather than the random push into "You're the electricity villain now!" Glad Jimmy isn't entirely one gag like he was in Episode 1. And they're already getting into Waller? Wow, such a fresh subject that hasn't been a significant focus of other cartoons, or movies, or TV shows, or video games for the last several years. Can't wait to go through all that again. I could check #Max, which I think it's on, but I never downloaded the new client and I stopped using the service after the BS #WBDiscovery they pulled erasing shows and movies, some of which I was literally in the middle of watching. Which is probably a good reminder I shouldn't try too hard to watch this either. Hell, #WB might erase it anyway because "quirky female lead" might be a little too diverse for the people in charge, based on what they already axed. Ok, really loving this show.
Nicely updates the Superman mythos, the mech designs in ep1 were cool + and a teeny bit Eva-ish imo.
The tech designs in general are sleek and cool.
The characters are interesting and the core trio are very likeable.

Pues, a pesar de HBO Max España, he terminado la primera temporada de My Adventures with Superman y he de decir que me ha gustado bastante. Se toma sus licencias que me pueden gustar más o menos, sobre todo que la serie parezca más un anime de mechas que una serie de superhéroes me chirría un poco a ratos, igual que determinados cambios a algunos villanos, que han pasado a ser la mayoría muy tecnológicos, pero el balance final es positivo.
Las dinámicas del trío protagonista me encantan, y aunque como lector de cómics determinados plot twists no lo fueron tanto, fue divertido ver cómo jugaban con ellos.
Creo también que es una buena forma de acercar el personaje a una nueva generación que encima está haciendo atiborrada de versiones más grises o directamente oscuras del personaje. Este Superman es tal como siempre lo he visto en los cómics y ojalá siga siendo así en futuras adaptaciones.

Ojalá triunfe bastante la serie y vayan más allá de las 2 temporadas por las que les contrataron.

I've gotten a big kick out of the #HarleyQuinn animated series, but as I get older I find myself more attracted to #Superman. If there was a superhero that embodied the #Bodhisattva ideal, its definitely Supes. If you haven't yet, I highly recommend checking out #MyAdventuresWithSuperman on Max.

Really glad I had the opportunity to write about this show. It hit all the right notes for me as a Superman fan.
