#MyArtGotBetter i realized that i shouldn't depend on what other think i should draw.
for a while i was stuck with not being able to draw what i wanted. i came from a family that turned super conservative when i was 14. and suddenly dragons were of the devil some how.
but then i stopped giving a shit some time after i cut them out. and i dove right into drawing what i wanted. my skills in drawing dragons improved 10 fold. and they can't stop me

#MyArtGotBetter when my painting mentor told me every square inch of a painting needs to be interesting: no bland backgrounds
#MyArtGotBetter when:
* I began prioritizing accurate VALUES (this Krita trick is very helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0LBVjJPb9o) and EDGES ( http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1708240&d=1360202566 )
* I began using THUMBNAILS (AKA very smoll pieces) to work out composition and/or and colors ahead of time.

late to the party but #MyArtGotBetter when I accepted that I didn't need to be practicing intensely every single day because sometimes improvement happens when you aren't drawing. it happens when you examine art thats already been made, figuring out why you like it or don't, spending time just watching the world thoughtfully, so that you can come back to the table with new ideas and things to try. in your own time.
Aw, I like all these #MyArtGotBetter and #MyMusicGotBetter posts! Thank you all for sharing! ❤️

#Myartgotbetter once I stopped trying to make art to please others and actually focused on drawing in ways I enjoyed! It seems obvious, but for a long time I wasn't drawing for me. I was drawing for attention. I wanted people to be impressed by my art, to feel validated through that.
I've since learned ways that I love to draw, and in turn I've found a passion for it - so I do it more now than ever before!
#MyArtGotBetter when I lowered my barrier to getting started as much as possible. Making it quick and easy to jump in to making stuff lowers the stakes, so making mistakes feels like less of a big deal. Also, I do it more often, especially since it actually takes longer to boot into a video game now...
#MyArtGotBetter by experimenting with different mediums and tools, going from drawing digitally to oil painting to drawing with a ballpoint pen taught me a bunch of things
@TQ When I got interested in painting, drew from my background as a musician practicing 30+ hours a week and so set out to paint 1000 in the first year. Got to only 850, but now I can paint fast and with confidence. #MyArtGotBetter
Hey people of mastodon.art! What are the things that catapulted your art to the next level? What did you do that made you (surprisingly) a better artist? Would you share your experiences so we can learn from each other?
Perhaps with something like #MyArtGotBetter when I finally faced my fears. Which totally is my first entry here! I held myself back by not even trying to learn about colors, anatomy, abstraction!
So - join in? 🎨
