Alert for fellow residents of #Victoria that cases of #BuruliUlcer are becoming more common. The disease is caused by the bacterium #MycobacteriumUlcerans, which can be carried by #possums and spread by #mosquitoes ! Here’s a pic down my #microscope at 200x magnification of a case I just reported this morning. The specimen is a punch biopsy of a leg ulcer with Wade-Fite stain highlighting the organisms in intense dark pink (pale purple background is the necrotic dermis). #pathology
