#MycologyMonday a beautiful troop of Scarlet Waxcaps, Hygrocybe Coccinea - these bring me absolute joy to see in the field which is where they always stay for me.
While I'm delighted to see greater interest in what has hitherto been a niche interest of mine, I am a bit worried about influencer types on certain platforms picking species for the pot that aren't choice edibles and that might be rare or even harmful. I recently saw a post where someone had a basketful of Helvella crispa, a species generally noted to be of poor edibility & thought to contain carcinogens - it seems silly to take from nature what we really don't need, especially when the benefits are dubious or limited.
