In other #AmateurRadio news, I built this yagi-uda antenna to listen to “the birds”. Apparently a lot of the satellites have a 70cm band downlink.

I cut up an old tomato cage, cut off a piece of 1x2 from my scrap pile, and all I need is the coax to connect it to my radio.

I’ll let you know how it works when I get it connected up. Might be a few days.

Well, I increased the character speed to "25 wpm" and decreased the effective speed to "10 wpm". Seems to have done the trick. I just couldn't keep up with how quick the character groups were coming at me. We'll see how well this goes moving forward.

CW training is not going well. Lesson 1 is at 90% accuracy, but Lesson 2 has a harrrrrd learning curve apparently. That third letter really threw me off!

I spent some time last night listening to hams make contact through the International Space Station repeater. It’s so exciting to be able to hear this activity and see the ISS as it passes overhead. I highly recommend it!

Now I'm working on a full year homeschool class curriculum over RF communication: the history, and the fundamentals (theory, circuits, etc.).

The goal is to share some of my amateur radio enthusiasm with my wife and two kids and to prep them to take their technician license at the end of the year.

This rabbit hole goes deep.
