It had been taken over by CAs from the 2nd white flight (in late 80s/early 90s racist Californians moved there to get away from minorities—real thing). They made the kids pay/ride for the school bus to “lower taxes.” $5.00 ea ride. I’m not sure why my subconscious felt the need to make me not want to move back. I never would. Racism, homophobia, etc.
