Overthinking where to set my traps: trapped maybe 2 birds a month
Putting a trap in a random place because the car couldn't go farther on a bad dirt road: trapped 8 just yesterday 🤯

These things are like cane toads with wings and doubt we'll ever see them eliminated.
In their (slight) favour, they do have a remarkable portfolio of warbles, clacks, growls, and chirps, and often sound like a big raucous canary 🙂
Tagged two mynas today! Very nice to see them on the map in real time

The common #myna (Acridotheres tristis) is native to India and neighbouring countries but #invasive in other regions like Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Fiji and South Africa, causing #biodiversity loss - article on its genomics and spread in the journal Heredity (2023, art. no. 00621) by Kamolphat Atsawawaranunt and others - https://doi.org/10.1038/s41437-023-00621-w
Trapping mynas has been difficult in the last month. FINALLY got this one today. Now let's just hope the radio tag doesn't fall off, because she was definitely trying to get rid of it!

Caught our first mynas yesterday! Not with the special myna traps, mind you. The first one basically trapped itself in the lab building corridor and we chased it with nets and ladders. Later two others got into the cage area to see what happened to their friend and we caught them too.

The Common (Indian) #myna is slowly replacing native #birds in #Bellingen. "The cane toad of the sky" was first introduced to Australia between 1863 and 1872, in Victoria, to control insects in the market gardens. Now it is "The Most Important #Pest/Problem" in Australia.
