Adrenaline courses through her veins as she waits for the signal. Her fingers wrapped around the steering wheel, like a fighter pilot ready for take off. She loved the thrill of the race as the engine revved and roared. Her sleek sportscar was her pride and joy; ruby red, sleek lines with a beautiful deep rumble from the exhaust.
The road ahead was empty, but the crowds urged them on. She never gave anything a second thought, having a dangerously myopic view of the world. The thrill of the race was too hard to ignore, every moment there for the taking. The lights work their cycle. Her senses heighten as she prepares for the race. She was ready.
Red.
Yellow.
Green.
The tyres screech as her foot hits the floor and the engine roars to life. Her hands were on the shifter as she moved through the gears. She was at one with the car, almost symbiotic. They understood each other, knowing when and how to respond to each other's actions. The engine screams as she makes her way down the road, her opponent left in her wake as she tears down the straight.
A loud explosion. The tyre blows as the car spirals dramatically. She grips the wheel and tries to wrestle control, but she knew her time would come.
When you live on the edge, eventually you will fall off.
