I have lived in the SFBA all my life and have lived thru all kinds of earthquakes big and small.

Just muted a couple of Earthquake bots here on sfba.social because I've got MyShake and because any earthquake below 4.5 on the Richter scale really isn't worth reporting.

Would like to mute other such reports but there's really no way to filter them out exclusively, so I'm just going to have to ignore them. 🤷‍♂️

The MyShake app I installed a couple weeks ago got a test run last night. I got a clear audible warning of the #ferndale earthquake that jolted me out of a deep sleep. Fortunately I did not feel any jolts IRL here in #SanFrancisco.

The #MyShake #earthquake alert app worked great and got us jumping out of bed in the middle of the night. We’re too far from the epicenter to have felt anything, but thinking about everyone up in Humboldt county.

Dear Authors of the #MyShake application,

Please work on your emergency alert algorithm. Yes a M6.4 #earthquake should get some alerting, but at over 220 miles away from the epicenter we didn't so much as feel it - let alone require being woken up in the middle of the night.

Check to make sure the "Global Notifications" setting in MyShake is off and that you've set a Home Base where you actually live or work.

You can also negate any alerts by turning your Location setting &/or by turning your Notifications Ringer off, which is what I do (for other reasons) because if any earthquake worth mention occurs near me, I'll already know it.

At least that's been the case for the past 72 yrs that I've lived in the SFBA .

Thankful that #myshake works and notified us of the eminent #earthquake this morning. Also thankful that we are safe and unaffected. Not as excited that it took me a long time to get back to sleep. #sfba.

I’m excited to hear that the #MyShake app triggered notification in Northern #California and Southern #Oregon in response to this morning’s #earthquake .

I’d love to hear from people who got the notification and felt the earthquake about how much time they had between the notification and the shaking.

And if you’re mad at #myshake app alerting for it being 200 miles away the settings are completely adjustable so change it if you don’t want that level of sensitivity.
