Call the Canaries Home is the story of a reunion : three sisters reconnected in their childhood town in Louisiana. It is a time of happiness and healing , but also of grief and anger. As secrets shadow the sisters’ relationship, many questions remain about the disappearance of their younger sibling several decades ago.

What a fun little adventure ! If your middle grader loves mystery story and problem solving, this graphic novel will be the perfect read. And it is really funny too ! I l enjoyed the retelling of Sherlock Holmes and how young Finder solves the case.

It's going to take me forever to write this visual novel/adventure game but I've been making slow progress every day. These last few days, I've fleshed out more of everyone's motives and nailed down the murder weapon. Now I'm working in the backstory leading to the events where the story begins 😃

Whew, just finished the final revision of my campus thriller (9 years after commencing!). A couple of previous revisions saw me chopping out excessive detail, removing one whole character and her story line, & moving a few other things around.

Nonetheless, in this final go-round, I managed to remove another chapter and 1300 excess words.

The excess were words I tend to overdo—e.g., "that" & "then" & "now" as well as adverbs that seemed descriptively redundant.

Moving into new spaces, I’ve started to write mystery and crime fiction, and my first story came out today in the Crimeucopia series from Murderous Ink Press. It’s easily available at Bookshop.org and Amazon (print or Kindle): just look for Crimeucopia: Boomshakalaking! Modern Crimes for Modern Times.

Seeking noble action, I read detective fiction and love The Poisoned Pen

Today’s quote
“I got a kid to bring up, and a man who keeps fighting to stay sane, sober, and useful—despite the odds against him. I try to do the right thing, and surround myself with people like you and your mom and Joe and Lester. Who cares if the rest of the world is acting like a bunch of loonies?”

Written by Archie Mayor in Bury the Lead, a Joe Gunther novel.

Am reviewing some essays & papers I wrote in college (as part of some character backstory research). It's huge fun to read them. I seem to have been something of an erudite smarta$$. 😄

Dorothy Hughes' Ride the Pink Horse (1946) is interesting in how it uses fictional techniques to deal with racism, specifically against Hispanos. The main character is a white working-class hoodlum who comes to New Mexico during the annual Fiestas de Santa Fe to blackmail a powerful Senator. /1
