The quest for answers may take us into every part of the world and century of the past, into oriental temples, painted paleolithic caves, and the deepest jungle sanctuaries, since, across time and cultures, our ancestors have conjured up the myth of the dragon.

Some have said that the dragon exists only so that the hero has something to slay. But Campbell suggests another path -- a quest into the inner world that may take us “inward, upward, and downward, following shamans on their visionary journeys and witches to their sabbaths.”

The biggest (and most relevant) of Emily's pet peeves is people who try to manipulate her. I didn't plan on the struggle against manipulation being a theme when I started , but it certainly has become one.
