Here's a nice photo of one of the best-preserved sets of Coptic socks from the V&A Museum.
@Violinknitter -- When I was talking about socks with sandals, I was thinking of these!

I picked "more than 10" and I was only counting the #knitting ones! đ€Ł There's also the #spinning, the @weaving, the #sewing, the #nalbinding, and biggest of all, the #dyeing

Day 9: DICE
Love seeing everyone's dice for #RPGaDay2023, but I'm going with my favorite DICE bag. If dice are going to roll well they need a nice cozy spot to live. My wonderfully talented girlfriend spun the yarn herself and made the bag using a technique called #Nalbinding. I keep my metal đ€ dice safe and ready within.

I love to boost posts with photos of textile work, but only if they have alt-texts.

I'm teaching myself #nalbinding today and somehow the knotting movement is reminding me of #lacemaking. I really want to get back into that--I need some more bookmarks. I think Mum is storing all my bobbins and pillows at her place with her supply though... that could be an issue, it's a 40m drive to get there.
I get that learning nalbinding in person and/or from videos is preferable to learning from a book, but does anyone have book recommendations for learning nalbinding?
Feel free to share recommendations in other media types, but I am looking for book recommendations in particular
Sometimes the smallest things can give you the biggest realisations. I started these socks a full year ago as a "quick project" and I've only just finished them. I guess I have been pretty busy. How long is it acceptable to pretend it's "busier than normal" before admitting that "busy is normal"?
Secondary realisation, #PureWool chunky socks are much better than my worn out slippers, layered thin socks or any other combination of things I've been wearing all winter. I must take a lesson from the ancestors and just wear my #VikingReenactment kit more often. Literally couldn't feel the cold tiles at all through these beauties.

Picked up my nalbinding yesterday, for the first time in at least a year. Nalbinding is the predecessor to knitting, not difficult to do, but I hear the echoes of time when I pick up my nal.
Crafting makes me feel fundamentally more like myself. Something unlocks, even if Iâm just making something simple.
@RussSharek You'll love it and never look back. :)
(i started with #knitting once, moved forward to #spinning with spindle and wheel. Then #sewing came, and finally #nalbinding and #bandweaving. So glad i don't like crochet ...).
Send from down the rabbit hole.

New year, new intro! #newyear23
Hi I'm Jola, I am a #fibrearts enthusiastđ I have a doctorate researching spider silk, and I am a life-long knitter. đ§¶
I'm interested in fabric-making crafts (my recent hobbies include #CardWeaving, #spinning and #nalbinding). My new year's resolution is to learn #sewing. đ§”
In my day job, I work as an independent consultant on life sciences and environmental projects for the government. Prior, I worked at the bench in the lab growing miniature tumours đ§«

Anne Marie Decker (Sigrid Briansdottir) is one of the preeminent nalbinding researchers and teachers in the world. She has opened an etsy shop to sell her two nalbinding instruction manuals. Have at it fiberfolks! #FiberArts #Nalbinding

My family history of woodworking came over me today, when I spontaneously decided to learn nĂ„lbinding and realized I didnât have a needle yet.
I have a needle now.

Started the third colour on My First NĂ„lbinding Project, just in time for winter to really bite.
I got interrupted by the summer heatwave, but that's two thirds done!

Hm. Slightly bemused by the fact that "crafts" isn't a category of Mastodon instances, or that there (seemingly) isn't a server that states it/them as the target community. #knitting #woodworking #whittling #weaving #spinningyarn #crochet #pottery #woodturning #nalbinding #lithography

@RadioAngel i think #nalbinding is the...whatever Scandinavian language word for it.
The wiggly-green object is my first attempt at #nalbinding a hat! More like a wooly green Christmas tree. Useless as a hat! Do laugh!đ„Ž
