Namecheap support helped me out yesterday. No drama, all professionalism. Thanks #namecheap
If you can, I use

(~6bucks for 1year domain)
#Namecheap was a loss as I couldn't pay (I closed my #paypal)
#Godaddy is sketchy as heck afaics.
I think @koyu uses #servbyte for the domains, they might also be good.

Urgh, I still need to do a migration from #gandi for 3-4 domains and an important email address.
#porkbun . #namecheap , #mythicbeasts or other ???

📈 Domain registrar #Namecheap has announced a price increase for .COM and .XYZ domain names from September 1. The price hike is due to an increase by Verisign, the entity overseeing .COM domains.

Here's some #network sorcery:
I xtfer'd a domain out of google over to namespace. This domain is responsible for my personal email address I've been using for almost 3 decades.
I have, over the years, collected many hostname entries for MX, WWW, CNAME, TXT, etc., under this domain.
The transfer was painless and easy (Thanks #Namecheap) and NC support told me that as long as the domain continued to use Google's nameservers, the HOST records, even though the domain has vanished from my managed list, will continue to be maintained.
(If I switch the domain's nameserver over to NC, then I'll have to manually re-enter all the host records.)
I'm amazed this is all still working; Networking life is not usually this kind.
Ok, assuming #NameCheap still haven't gotten their act together and think it's fine to share your info with fly-by-night third parties, the current registrars in the running are:
* njal.la (price isn't really an issue; domain names are IMPORTANT and IMO way too cheap)
* porkbun.com
* joker.com
* hover
I'm leaning toward #Njalla even though privacy of the registration itself isn't a significant concern to me, just because they stake their reputation on pushing back against requests from government & "rights" holders.
@ginguin Oops, I forgot #NameCheap had ANOTHER reason to be on my shit list: https://retro.social/@freakazoid/109858419779677566
So, I just set up an #Invidious instance on my domain. It was a fun process consisting of:
- Registering my domain on #Namecheap
- Using #Cloudflare as DNS nameserver
- Setting up HTTPS certs with #CertBot via the Nginx Proxy Manager
Not as difficult as I've thought
#invidious #namecheap #cloudflare #certbot
Why not just ask for people to just buying via donations?
But, I guess this isn't a bad alternative.

This is the second time today that I’ve seen #porkbun mentioned today. I’m going to take a closer look because of the accusations of domain sniping against #namecheap.
It looks like my domain registrar of choice (Gandi.net) is bumping prices across the board, quite soon, along with some other changes (https://news.gandi.net/en/2023/06/faq-new-mailbox-service/). I assume that that is a direct result of the acquisition by Total Webhosting Solutions.
Any recommendations for a reliable alternative?
I've heard some positive mumblings about NameCheap. Are those justified? I don't need much out of a registrar, no HTTP, SMTP, or DNS hosting, etc.
Boosts appreciated!

With the #googledomains debacle, I will be moving my blog to coatl.dev.
I tried to transfer that domain to #cloudflare but it cannot handle the .dev TLD, so #namecheap looks like the best alternative.
A new .dev domain from Google costs around $10 USD, #squarespace on the other hand charges $30 USD. Which makes me think they'll hike up the prices after the 12-month grace period ends once the purchase in final.
I'll wait till July to transfer coatl.dev.

Props to @craigmaloney for alerting me about this! #Google is shutting down #GoogleDomains, so now I am frantically rushing to find a new home for numerous domains. Thus far, #NameCheap is my preferred destination as they support all but one of the domain extensions that I use (I was thinking about switching my domains to #WordPress (https://WordPress.com), but they do not support many of the cool domain extensions that I use. https://octodon.social/@craigmaloney/110551229150603828

I recently moved from #godaddy to a #namecheap and starting to think that anything is better than Godaddy.
Does anyone have good experience with Porkbun domain registrar? Might choose it over Namecheap. Been a decade or 2 since I last did some hosting/dev environment stuff. Wanted to get into it again.

Is #namecheap injecting #malicious content into websites hosted on their platform? I just replaced my landing page with a linear clock and showed it to a co-worker. He viewed source on the page to see 2 CSS pages loaded that I never added. Loaded up the page on my browser, same thing shows up. Check the source, not there. What the heck?
