I expanded the questions in the "How we are standing in #solidarity with #trans folks" form, because I realized that the additional questions we talked about in the in-person conversations and interviews hadn't made it into the form. So, if you would like to contribute to this #collective #narrativetherapy project, the form is here - https://forms.gle/2KoL4y12P4YDpZN8A
Or I'm happy to interview you, too!
I am booking three days at the end of the month to finally write the first draft of this document.

I have #writing to do. An article on finances and families - how discourses of consumption and effects of capitalism harm families and put pressure on marginalized families, and some #narrativetherapy ideas for deconstructing those discourses and dignifying the stories of how families are resisting and responding to these harms. This article is already late to my editor. Yikes.
And a draft of the 'effects' section for a paper on a new narrative therapy practice that I am co-authoring.
One of the most meaningful community projects I've co-facilitated is the BPD Superpowers. https://tiffanysostar.com/bpd-superpowers/ We finalized our collective doc three years ago and are getting ready to have some community conversations reflecting on what has changed, what we've learned, what we would say differently now. The rigorous critique of 'personality disorder' as a relevant label has grown, and I am SO excited to have that conversation. The second ed. will be shared next year. #bpd #narrativetherapy
I’m part of a new #narrativetherapy ‘community of practice’ - a monthly virtual gathering of narrative folks who are working on responses to climate grief, fear, anguish, etc. We had such a lovely, generative conversation tonight, and one of our colleagues (the incredible generator of projects, Lucia from Brazil) suggested that we create a collective document of our conversations as a first shareable project from our time together. I love this. I will share it here when that happens.
What do you wish #therapists would know, do, or say when working with #trans community members?
I'm putting a wish list together to share with #narrativetherapy and other #therapy colleagues.
You can contribute here, or send me a message and we can chat! https://forms.gle/xmRE3XXUK5AELpE77

Today will be a long day, doing some of my favourite things. First, a farmers market trip. Then this afternoon, #facilitating a #writing group for the yearlong writing course I’m teaching, then facilitating the #trans and #nonbinary #narrativetherapy practitioner group, which will have a couple new members joining. (Yay!) Then breakfast burritos for dinner. My pain is high, but this is my favourite kind of work so I’ll medicate and do my best and I’m looking forward to it anyway.

Since my business cards weren’t ready in time, I’m bringing #zines to hand out at the conference instead. This is one of my favourite zines. It includes letters from lots of people, plus a #collective letter that came out if a #community conversation. #narrativetherapy #trans #communitycare (you can read the zine here - https://tiffanysostar.com/letters-of-support-for-the-trans-community-vol-1/)

I do have a lot of feelings about #therapy #conference planning that does not include #covid care. Like, a lot. Especially #narrativetherapy spaces. We talk about this field being one with an intentionally political and justice-oriented core. How can we claim that when we are following along with dominant discourses of covid being ‘over’? It’s #ableism in action. It’s #racism (bc we know Black and Indigenous folks have higher barriers to medical care). It’s every hostile discourse and system.

I’d really like to see the kind of rich conversations about #narrativetherapy on here as I see about other things I care about. I have the capacity to start or run an instance myself, but I wonder if I could convince some of my narrative colleagues to join me here anyway. There’s a conference happening this week and I’ll be there (#MaskUp despite/because of the lack of conference guidelines), and maybe I can pull some people over. Maybe I will post about the conference, too. (Live tooting? Lol.)
I facilitate a #trans and #nonbinary #narrativetherapy practitioner peer group. We just had our first August chat and it was so good. We talked about the intersection of fatness and gender, medical gatekeeping that differentially harms fat trans folks and how this is ableism, healthism, and white supremacy in action, the gender presentations available to fat folks.

In better news, I am a co-author on a poster that will be presented at the Calgary Family Therapy Centre Conference next week (and then will hopefully become a paper soon after, because our #narrativetherapy project is actually really cool!) and I got the poster finalized today. Good job, me. ‘An Episode of Your Life: Rich Narrative Engagement with Episodic Stories’.
I didn’t fuck up the time for my writing group, though, so… yay. I’m facilitating a year long course using #narrativetherapy inspired prompts on a different theme each month. It’s nice. This month we’re on ‘healing and responding to pain’ and we had a lovely conversation earlier in the month about resisting #ableism and #healthism in our experiences of healing. Sometimes what we need to heal is the harm of ableism, because our disabilities and illnesses persist. And that’s not ‘failure to heal’.

@LeviKornelsen I’m super interested in TTRPGs that work as ‘visionary fiction’ invitations for players, or that work with #narrativetherapy in interesting ways. Things like Avery Alder’s games (especially the games in Variations on Your Body) but also any game with cool or interesting gender expansive dynamics (like Apocalypse World). I am in the very early stages of planning a gaming and narrative therapy conference-ish thing for next year. I’d love to hear about other games that fit!
One of the projects I'm working on right now is a document for #therapists (particularly but not only #narrativetherapy folks) - 'narrative responses in support of #trans lives'. We had six community conversations with narrative practitioners (mostly trans and #nonbinary therapists) between May and July. I will be spending August starting on the creation of the document coming out of these conversations.

One of the projects I’m working on is creating a collective document (a #narrativetherapy zine, sort of) collecting stories of how and why we (a broad ‘we’ including #transgender #nonbinary and also cis folks) care about and act on being in solidarity with trans folks. The goal of this project is to create something that makes care visible, and that invites other cis folks to join us in acting in solidarity.

@arrayanflorio @vlrny Quite a few years ago I put together a huge online course on #narrativetherapy and #speculativefiction (my thinking was that reading spec fic, writing spec fic, and retelling our own stories through a spec fic informed therapeutic lens might have something cool to offer) and we found so many cool subgenres of people writing amazing stories. Thank you for sharing the tag!

if your therapist blames your brain instead of capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy, adultism, ableism,hetero-homo-and cis-normativities, etc.... get a new therapist… diagnose discourses, not people #NarrativeTherapy
