Skjoldenæsholm Tram Museum also has a narrow gauge tram line (1000mm) from the car park and into the museum. A quite original way of entering the museum!

No. 2 Baldwin 4-6-2 tender loco on the Brecon Mountain Railway, gauge 1ft 113/4in.

It has led a most colourful life, being built Philadelphia, USA in 1930 for a South African cement company and written off in a driverless runaway accident in 1973.

It was bought as salvage, moved to Wales and lovingly rebuilt between 1993 and 1997 by the BMR.

Strap line on the Brecon Mountain Railway website says they're opening on 1st April for the 2023 season.

Fingers crossed for a good year for this delightful narrow gauge railway running from Pant to the (in)famous Torpantau tunnel on the old B&MR.

Fascinating locomotives. Well worth a visit!

Lovely picture of 'Pendyffryn', an 0-4-0 vertical boiler locomotive built to a gauge of 1ft 11.5in.

Built in 1897 by De Winton & Co of Caernarfon (1854b-1901) for the Pen-Yr-Orsedd Slate Quarry.

Purchased in 1965 and restored at the Brecon Mountain Railway where it is now based. At least 6 De Winton locomotive are known to have been preserved.

Time for another train post.

In 2017 I revisited Porthmadog, Wales, a small town with three (!) railway stations: the mainline one, and two belonging to tourist railway companies.

The most notable is Porthmadog Harbour Station, home to the Ffestiniog Railway, the world’s oldest continuous railway company - it’s been in existence since the 1830s.

In addition to the Ffestiniog trains which head into the mountains of Snowdonia, the company also runs the Welsh Highland Railway, a route pieced together from former narrow-gauge railways. @NarrelleMHarris and I jumped aboard on a sunny September day to enjoy a ride through the Welsh countryside to imposing Caernarfon Castle and back. Great day out.

We are getting ready to visit Tertitten again. This little travel back in time is a joyride for the whole family and a Christmas tradition. It's our version of the Polar Express!

The open air museum Urskog-Hølandsbanen is a narrow-gauge railway between Sørumsand and Fossum.

This Sunday, the museum starts its Christmas drive again.

Today's train post is of the Żnin Narrow Gauge Railway in Poland. Once used for hauling sugar beets as well as passengers, nowadays it's a tourist railway which calls at the recreated Bronze Age village at Biskupin.

It's a fun day out, @NarrelleMHarris joined me when I was researching it for Lonely Planet's Poland guidebook some years ago.

(By the way, for train nerds the rail gauge used is 600 mm, or 1 ft 11+5⁄8 in. So narrow!)
