@ChrisMayLA6 There is also the attitude here that contracts and conditions of employment are there to be stretched, undermined or bypassed where legally possible, rather than being a realistic and sustainable framework for the working environment. I will be on strike again too and one of the reasons is the constant shoe-horning in of extra tasks without actual mitigation or appropriate reimbursement. #Workers #NASUWT

Sometimes I have to take a moment to ponder that people lose precious wages just to try & secure enough money to get by and workplace conditions that are safe & secure. The derelict mills in our valley whisper the stories of workers denied this.

Thinking of all the railway workers, nurses, lecturers, posties & others pushed into taking industrial action. And thinking too of workers not supported by unions.

Teaching is a vocation. I knew it would be hard work and I don't mind that. What I didn't expect, was to see my real income shrink so drastically over my whole career while my workload and stress increase annually. Money is wasted on poorly thought out political projects like CfE & 1+2. I am expected to constantly raise attainment while catering for ever more complex needs in a deteriorating environment. That's why I'm on strike today.

Teaching colleagues are striking today in Scotland. Wage stagnation has lost me £50k in the last decade. In that time classes have got bigger, pupils' needs more complex, curricular demands more unrealistic and the physical environment more challenging. I effectively went six years without an income and built considerable debt to become a teacher. I will be striking in December.
