Nate Silver has gone a long way by touting himself "just a numbers guy," but it's clear, as Molloy says that he has aspirations to punditry — and that he's one of those mainstream media gurus who loves to play the both sides game essentially to keep the left wing of the Democratic party in check — and to aid the Republican party without admitting his is what he's doing. Very Serious People hang on his words.

Nate Silver is also openly gay.

As Parker Molloy reports, Nate Silver, who has described himself as “somewhere between a libertarian and a liberal," has joined the "manufactured panic" club about Biden's age — Biden being THREE YEARS older than Trump and in far better physical shape.

The phrase "manufactured panic" is Charles Blow's excellent summary of the media meme that Biden is too old.

Mixed feelings about #NateSilver. I got into statistics (and twitter) because of #538. I can't say I would be in research otherwise.

I started losing interest, though, over his bizarre interpretations of #COVID data and gave up completely when he fired Clare Malone.

I hope he and 538 land on their feet--but with more equipoise and less hubris.

The #book failed to make a big impression on me when listening to it but I find myself thinking back to Silver's words as I live life.
I recommend this book to anyone who thinks data alone can solve our problems.
