Now, here’s the major #problem. These regions are the foundation of our public lands #system. They contain the large bulk of our #NationalForests, #NationalParks, and Wilderness. The amount of #land that appears to exist for the purpose of #development, versus the amount of land that actually exists for development, is tiny. For example, the #county that I live in is comprised of 68% public lands, mainly in the form of #NationalForest stewarded by the U.S. Forest Service. 10% of the land is comprised of #farm and #ranch land. This leaves a tiny fraction of buildable space for the influx of #migrants, to a place that already has a significant pre-existing #population.

For a President who doesn't get much attention these days, #BenjaminHarrison was surprisingly progressive. During his one term in office, Congress passed the Sherman #Anti-Trust Act, set up the Forest Reserve system (which Harrison immediately acted upon, creating the forerunner to the #NationalForests), and added the first new #NationalParks since Yellowstone almost 20 years before.

So difficult to get a sense of sheer massive scale in ancient forests, using iPhone 13 no filters. I know the big hemlocks and untouched cedars have been growing here since the signing of the Magna Carta. And occasionally tumbling down in a riot OG stone and lumber.
