This is my favourite part of Grovely Wood - 2 miles of beech avenue escorting a former Roman road. It completely captivated me the first time* I walked out into it - an inexplicable sense of the old trees acting as sentinels, waiting, watching and bearing witness.

More for #NationalTreeWeek from Grovely Wood in Wiltshire. There was a huge amount of damage from Storms Dudley, Eunice, Franklin. The mind boggles at the forces involved in wrenching mature trees into matchwood. But also, folklore and snowdrops.

Another favourite tree. I have sat on a bench underneath this beautiful Beech tree many times this year. In the summer it is lush and green, in autumn resplendent in autumnal leaves.
Today's joy has been watching the birds and squirrels in its branches, who I cannot see at other times of year.

For the last day of national tree week I wanted to post photos from my old rented house in Leeds,you dont need a huge space or smallholding or to even own your house to plant trees,I turned the gravel wasteland into a garden with very little money in two years ,I planted small shrubs and planted native trees in large planters ,still useful for wildlife and eventually they were given away for planting where they had space
