You may consider leisure caravanning to be a 20th century invention.

The first touring caravan is considered to be the Wanderer designed by Victorian author Dr. William Gordon Stables, built by the Bristol Wagon Works Company in 1884.

Dr. Sables' book 'The Cruise of the Land Yacht Wanderer' detailed his tour of 1300 miles to Scotland, a free version published online at gutenberg.org/files/37687/3768

Hogwarts didn't always have bathrooms. Before adopting Muggle plumbing methods in the eighteenth century, witches and wizards simply relieved themselves wherever they stood, and vanished the evidence.
