On this day in 1936, at the age of 17, Nat King Cole made his recording debut in a group with his brother. Eddie Cole’s Solid Swingers recorded four tracks for Decca Records. It was a solid start for the forthcoming music legend, who would go on to form his own trio just a year later.

"Straighten Up and Fly Right" is a 1943 song written by #NatKingCole and #IrvingMills and one of the first vocal hits for #theKingColeTrio. It was the trio's most popular single, reaching number one on the #HarlemHitParade for ten nonconsecutive weeks. The single also peaked at number nine on the pop charts. "Straighten Up and Fly Right" also reached number one for six nonconsecutive weeks on the #MostPlayedJukeboxHillbillyRecords.
