Hi Folks,
Could someone help me connect with #naturalists and #conservationists in #India?

There are aphids on the stem, surrounded by the "barn". They're visible in some of the photos in this iNaturalist observation.

I checked them out today. They're still at it!

Most of these become iNaturalist observations, where you can vicariously enjoy my explorations.
I just uploaded my 100th new (to me) species from the trip.

I saw a lot of Lymantria dispar, spongy moth, in Saratoga County at the start of my Adirondacks trip. Yet even as I am aware of their destructiveness in my part of the world, I cannot help but admire their beauty.

📢#OutNow in #OA: '#Decolonial #Ecologies: The Reinvention of #NaturalHistory in #LatinAmerican #Art', by Joanna Page.
In this book, Joanna Page illuminates the ways in which #contemporary #artists in #LatinAmerica are reinventing #historical methods of collecting, organizing, and displaying nature in order to develop new #aesthetic and #political perspectives on the past and the present.
Page brings together an entirely new corpus of #artistic projects from #Argentina, #Brazil, #Chile, #Colombia, #Ecuador, #Mexico, and #Peru that engage critically and creatively with forms as diverse as the #medieval #bestiary, #baroque #cabinetsofcuriosities, atlases created by #European travellers to the #NewWorld, the #floras and #herbaria composed by eighteenth- and nineteenth-century #naturalists, and the #dioramas designed for #naturalhistory #museums.

I had a feeling I was being watched ...
I'm really pleased how this turned out. Taken live, in the field, on the banks of the Hudson River in the Adirondacks.
This is a teneral adult dragonhunter, meaning it was emerging from its last molt and could not fly yet, which is why it was such a cooperative subject.

I am back from a week in the Adirondacks. It's going to take me a few days to catch up with my thousands of photos. Not to mention everything else vying for my attention! So, thanks in advance for all your patience.
I created an iNat project for this year's observations. You can follow along there:

Got to explore this morning before they came with an electric chain saw and started cutting off the smaller branches. Got some sample branches, some with a half-dozen - to my inexperienced lichen eyes - species.
First of many observations to come.

Hey all!
Next month is Pride month, and #inaturalist asked for some folk to feature. I said yes! However, their staff actions today have me second guessing that. On their forum, they allowed someone to say they will continue to purposefully misgender, on a thread iNat staff made specifically for #LGBTQ #Naturalists. Instead of saying that goes against the forum rule of "be respectful" (it is obviously disrespectful to come into an LGBTQ thread saying you will purposefully misgender!) they have remained radio silent on the issue, saying we need to just calm down. Tonight, they locked the thread, when this afternoon all the discussion has been helping some folk explore their gender identity who were questioning, stopping us from helping these folx.
I am asking people email help@inaturalist.org and ask them to help protect trans & queer people. They are falling into the tolerance paradox, and should know they need to take a stand here! They can do the right thing, it is not too late.

To start, I am a bit nuts.
I've been finding dying #Palmettobugs (AKA #AmericanCockroach) in my house. I've left them alone thinking something is killing them and I suspect it's #EnsignWasps (my absolute favorites) their natural predators.
So, #entomologists and #naturalists, since Ensigns breed in roach egg cases, I'm tempted to let them do their thing. Haven't seen actual #wasps this year, just the roaches. Think I should clean em up or let them be?

@liberate You're welcome. I love nature a lot & enjoy sharing photos from my outdoor adventures.
I also enjoy learn from other nature lovers & fellow #naturalists all the time 😊
Nature endlessly fascinates me. The gratitude felt for natural worlds is immense.
My yearly volunteer tech support/teacher's aid job is almost complete. This year was particularly difficult for me with life stuff competing for attention, but I'm happy to have aided in the training of 48 new #volunteer #naturalists this session!
Let's keep the ripple growing!
Check with your local county #extension office to learn how you can become a naturalist and aid in the rehabilitation of our natural world.
Every talent/skillset is needed!
