Natural killer cells are immune cells that can destroy cancer cells without prior activation. They are being studied as a promising cancer therapy tool, alone or in combination with other treatments. They could also help prevent cancer recurrence and metastasis.

'Here, Thacker et al. demonstrated that Socs3highCD11b–CD27– immature NK cells were present in samples from patients with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) and correlated with worse prognosis. The authors further showed that this population of NK cells promoted, rather than inhibited, tumor progression in mice.'
