My Irish Redhead Cactus (Mammillaria spinosissima ) was in bloom, and now another of the mammillarias is flowering. This is my Thumb Cactus (Mammillaria matudae), looking like a silly owl with its two flower “eyes” and one little bud “beak”!

I've heard of Shrikes in other parts of the world impailing their prey on sharp points and I wondered whether local Shrikes in Singapore do the same. Well, now I know. Warning: graphic images of an impaled frog in the link which features a Brown Shrike (Lanius cristatus).
