Found this little chonk of an American Toad in my yard the other night. American toads can live up to 30 years and they are driven by habit and familiarity so once they find a spot they like, they tend to stick around. This little one is part of the family now! ☺️🤎

I haven’t kept up with recently so here’s some Raspberry Slime Mold for you, a day late. This mold can be found across Europe and North America on the damp wood usually on the forest floor. Despite the name, I don’t think they’re super tasty or particularly good for you so maybe leave these little ones off your foraging list 😉🍄

This Great Spangled Fritillary was sporting only one antennae but that’s enough to get the job done! These native North American butterflies are widespread and prefer to use violets as their larval host plants of choice. Love these beauties! 🧡

Lucile’s Glory of the Snow is part of the asparagus family and named after the wife of the Swiss botanist Pierre Boissier. They are naturalized here in North America and they’re a lovely little pop of color in the brown leaves of the forest floor. 💜🍂
