Four years ago yesterday, I decided I wanted to get coffee from this coffee truck with my good friend and current #NavajoTimes editor Krista Allen. The coffee truck was located at #MonumentValley, a good 3 hour drive from #FortDefiance. Krista lives closer to #Page,Arizona, so it wasn’t as far a drive for her.
Skipped work and made it to MV, where I took this pic. The #coffeetruck was nowhere in sight, but we played tourist. It was a great day.

Donovan Pete is the #NavajoNationLibrary’s community library manager. He oversees the daily and administration operation of this tribal library located in #WindowRock and two other community libraries located in #Kayenta and #Torreon.
The WR library has a really fascinating Special Collections that holds past editions of #NavajoTimes, recorded/transcribed oral history recorded in the 1970’s about the Long Walk, and more.
He hopes to get funding to replace computers.

After 10 years reporting on the #NavajoNation I decided to leave the paper I was with at the time #NavajoTimes, and go back to school to get my masters. I decided to get my degree in #investigativejournalism at #waltercronkite ASU.
Not to sound bitter, but I was disappointed at the lack of opportunity to teach how to properly cover tribal issues and communities. Parachute journalism into these communities shouldn’t be encouraged, recruiting and hiring #indigenous reporters should be the goal.
