Okay, I read the National Book Award longlist before the award. I read the Booker shortlist before the award. And now I've read all the fiction finalists for the NBCC awards. For what it's worth, the awards went to my personal favorites the last two times. But here is my personal ranking:
1. Jon Fosse, A NEW NAME (SEPTOLOGY is a major literary achievement)
2. Mieko Kawakami, ALL LOVERS IN THE NIGHT (I haven't read a book that challenged my perception like this in a long time)
3. Natalie Serpell, THE FURROWS (a very bold second part twist)
4. Ling Ma, BLISS MONTAGE (uneven but wildly imaginative)
5. Percival Everett, DR. NO (a huge disappointment from a literary ninja)
Some bold translation-friendly titles on this year's NBCC Fiction Awards list -- including Jon Fosse's SEPTOLOGY, which was already on my list of books to read. Now I get to play the game of seeing if I can read the five books before the ceremony! I'm 2 for 3 this year, having done so for the National Book Awards (I actually read all the longlist titles!) and the Booker Prize. So I may as well go 3 for 3 this year! 🤣
So, #introduction time!
Not from around here, but I have been in #Moncton since August, and I am loving #NewBrunswick - and the #Maritimes - so far.
#LGBTQIA2S+ and, as it says on my bio when I am not studying #QualityAssurance testing at #NBCC or working as a Web Developer (mainly with #Javascript #Nextjs #Python and #AWS), I write fanfiction to some fandoms which shall not be named here.
I am 100% certain that the internet was made by #cats (and for #CatVideos and #CatsGIFs...).
