Just compiling up a version of NCBI Blast for use on a large node. Anyone know why it looks for Boost/LaPack/GSL but doesn't require them? Will it be faster if I make them available?

#NCBI | GenBank Release 253.0 on NCBI FTP site https://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genbank/ | 21.38 trillion bases and 3.25 billion records. As always, I want to thank all of the great people at #NCBI for making GenBank possible! (and especially Mark and Ilene)
#ncbi update: SRA submission approved and live. Genome submission to be released on or before Christmas. The fight is over! Everything is in the hands of NCBI.
Thank you to SRA and Genome help desks!

#ncbi update: Genome submission completed all the checks and will be available at end of week. SRA submission...replace the one read file that is causing trouble...we'll see if it resolves.
#ncbi update: light at the end of the tunnel...assemblies are finishing processing and I'm one read file away from the SRA submission being done...assemblies will be resolved by the time I get home from visiting family for Christmas and the SRA probably will be too. :blobaww:

#ncbi update: one file is holding up the SRA submission and waiting for 11 assemblies to be removed from a genome submission. #bioinformatics #microbiology #tired

I need help desk to intervene in both submissions. 😠#ncbi #bioinformatics #microbiology

#ncbi oh my f**king god. My SRA submission went through after 12+ days of trying. Now for the assemblies which seems to be much worst. *pulls hair out* :mortyscream: #bioinformatics #genomics #microbiology
#microbiology #genomics #bioinformatics #ncbi
#ncbi SRA upload failed because I had extra files AND the preload folder was a different size than what I uploaded. This is a pain in the butt to upload 842 fastq files in one submission. #bioinformatics #microbiology
#microbiology #bioinformatics #ncbi
#ncbi SRA uploading is really getting on my nerves. I tried to complete my upload but the archive file it was seeing wasn't complete. I'm now trying to get it to recognize a new directory with the complete file. I'm running out of stuff to try. #bioinformatics #genomics :blobono:

I don't like putting stuff on NCBI. I have the reads and assemblies for 274 E.coli isolates. Today I only got through the biosample table and am in the middle of the SRA metadata table in half a day. I haven't even started to deal with the assemblies. This could take me all week or longer. #bioinformatics #ncbi #tedious #paperwork #genomics

Yes call me a nerd, geek or whatever, but this is so much fun! I know there are more Tree of Life's out there, but this one is the greatest IMO.
Interactively zoom in and out of all #life on #Earth.
I advise to view the one for the general public:
"Tree simplified from #NCBI taxonomy
~800,000 species
This 'large public' tree is a reduction of the whole NCBI #taxonomy. It only shows #species (no strains, environmental samples, unidentified species, etc.). It displays a description and picture retrieved from Wikipedia when clicking on the tips and nodes."
The other one is also great, but more for the professional:
"Complete NCBI taxonomy
~1.4 Million species
The NCBI taxonomic tree represents the relationships between all species/strains that have at least one sequence in the NCBI/Entrez database. It is curated and validated by expert taxonomists and is updated regularly. "
It even has a mobile app.
