Good to see that recognized. Second, the pressure from Europe point is interesting. Shows the importance of the new Nordic-Baltic-Central/Eastern bloc, which is in many ways driving policy. They helped force Washington and Berlin to act in a way that was inconceivable earlier.

More EU coordination of increased defence spending by member states aimed at NATO goals would be very welcome. The EU is not, however, capable of defending Europe and will not be trusted to do so by #NCEE states. A strong European pillar of NATO is essential.

#NCEE smaller states have shown considerable leadership on #Ukraine. But this apparently seems threatening to 🇫🇷🇩🇪. Only seeing large states as possible leaders is a relic that has no place in the EU. Can we also imagine/ accept diffuse/ multi-centred leadership?

Interesting point. I don’t think it’s a consequence of war though.
- #France doesn’t have a vision that appeals beyond 🇫🇷
-#Germany has no vision
-#Poland leading on war response but compromised on democracy & v. conservative.
- BUT why only look at larger states? not ##NCEE

#Germany & others should do more to recognize & act upon the indivisibility of their security from that of #Ukraine as well as #NCEE #NATO allies. There are costs now but these are better seen as investments in preventing far bigger costs from decaying liberal order later.
