Starting a new project as a 90th birthday present for my MIL. Family and friends are helping out too! It turns out my MIL's uncle, who lived in China for decades, wrote a book in the early 1930s wrote a book. We have not been able to find a copy of it (likely many copies lost in 1932 war and when the Japanese bombed publisher) but I was able to find a PDF copy. We're recreating the book, and a SIL is embroidering a book sleeve for it with a Chinese design. #NDBPRoject01 Not due till 2024. :)
My FIL (family is visiting) recounting the time they had "running hot water" at their accommodations, on a visit to Northeast India during a particularly cold season. Someone came "running" over carrying the boiling hot water in buckets, to their guest house. :) #NDBProject01
Continued family scans. This one is dated November 1927. Noted on the back is, "arriving in Assam." (which is in Northeast India) Hubby's grandmother the woman without the umbrella in the photo. This was his grandparents first time in NE India, where they worked for decades as medical missionaries. Hubby's grandfather was a doctor, his grandmother a nurse. As always, I'm tagging my family scan project with #NDBProject01 so you can find them all if interested.

More family scans. This one, taken by Hubby's grandfather, is dated November 1950. Travel to India. Jeddah. Transporting the fire truck & ambulance from the big ship to Jeddah dock. :) I just cannot imagine how they managed to get both vehicles on such a tiny little boat without sinking it. I must research to see if I can find anything more about this. I presume a gift or sale from the UK (their ship sailed from Liverpool) to Saudi?

Continued Family Scans. This one is of Hubby's father and two aunts about 1934 or 35. I believe this might be in Calcutta or possibly Delhi but have yet to figure it out, and maybe I never will. It's India for sure based on other information I have about when the family traveled back to America. I just love the carriage design, and the expressions on the children's faces, plus the ubiquitous huge white topis of the British Raj.

So, amongst family photos I'm scanning, I found three photos with "Frenchburg" written on back. A mystery to the family. I hunted online, AND found an #ArchitecturalHistorian in Kentucky who had recently blogged re what I now know is a school. I immediately recognized the abandoned building in her blog! She was thrilled to receive photos of the school, as it was in 1923.
Here's her follow-on blog about linking past and present:

@alwirtes That's exactly like my project - at least in terms of size! I pay Flickr also, as I'm over 25k images in now. You can see a few, as I'm tagging them all with #NDBProject01 to make them easy to find in a group here. I'm only sharing a very few here and there of course. Once more completed, I need to find places to give the slides and photos.
Continued scans from the Middlesex Hospital, New Jersey, USA series that I have found amongst the family photos. This is 1926. Nurses lounge. It looks like the series were a posed photoshoot of the hospital. One of the nurses in this photo is my husband's grandmother who worked as a nurse in NE Tribal India for decades.

Continued Hospital Photo series from the family scans I am doing. Middlesex Hospital, New Jersey, USA.
I will tag all photos I'm scanning with #NDBProject01 if interested in seeing them all. I'll be bouncing around with photos from the late 1800s, some in USA, some in India (mostly NE Tribal areas), and a very few in China.

My photo scanning project. Approximately 1926. Middlesex Hospital, New Jersey USA, where Hubby's grandmother trained as nurse before going to NE India. I have often wondered if hospitals might be interested in having old photographs of their earlier years, or what kind of historical society might want them. I have no idea who these people are, but clearly there was a photoshoot at the hospital given the set of similar photos I have.

Family scanning project continued. This slide was entitled "resort swimming pool, Mahabalipuram" by my FIL. I had to ask him. Turns out it was for a film. :) Not an actual car crash. Indian films (certainly in the 1970s, 80s, when this photo was taken (1980) were usually very dramatic. As you can see from the photograph. :)

One of my projects is scanning in tens of thousands of family slides and photos taken over the years (since the late 1800s in fact.) The family lived in India for decades. This is one of my faves from Kaziranga National Park, where you go out on elephants to watch the rhinos, because elephants can get very close to them, even with people as passengers.
This photo taken by my FIL cracks me up. I call it "Elephant, Mud, and the White Sari."
