#Neachdainn (Scottie) is now 10. He seems to be very healthy. My previous terriers all reached 15+. Lucky, I guess.

I tried snow boots with #Neachdainn, they never really worked:

Neachdainn needed snow boots because he had short, hairy legs that attracted the snow. In the wrong type of snow it would ball around his legs, eventually preventing him from walking.

Gruoch has long legs with short hair. The snow just slips off her legs. No boots required. 😃

Yes, the extremes of contrast can be a problem. However, at least, in snow one can *see* a black dog. On gloomy (non-snowy) winter days it was difficult to even see #Neachdainn.

Sorry to hear Fizz had a traumatic night. My previous pooch, #Neachdainn, was exactly the same. It was impossible to console him during long thunderstorms. He now lives in the Pyrenees, where thunderstorms are a regular occurrence. He has now mostly got used to them.

My (long-lost) wee pal, #Neachdainn, woofing at sheep being herded. If you listen carefully, you can hear the sheep.

I often wonder if Neachdainn and #Gruoch would be friends if they met. Gruoch usually gets on well with smaller dogs. Neachdainn always loved meeting any other dogs.

#Neachdainn, my Aberdeen Terrier, has terrible problems in deep snow. Firstly, because it is hard work for him. Secondly, the wrong type of snow clumps onto his hairy legs. Eventually the clumping prevents him walking at all.

It was time for a new Profile header image. I'm now using a photo of #Gruoch.

My wee pal, #Neachdainn, will make a return as a header image in the future.

"My" wee "puppy" is 9 years old, to-day.

The attached photos of #Neachdainn were taken a few days ago. He is shown enjoying exploring a frozen lake in the Pyrenees (where he now lives).

I've noticed that both #Neachdainn and #Gruoch enjoy taking in a nice vista. I've always assumed they are surveying the scene (for possible prey etc.).

Early test report.

#Neachdainn suffered terribly from snowballs on his legs. He had short legs with loads of long, curly hair, which exacerbated the problem. Snow boots were never very successful.

#Gruoch is having no such problems. She has long legs, with short, straight hair. Her hair also has a Teflon™ coating. Everything, including snow, just slips off.

Of course, it might be that the current snow (cold and dry) is the wrong type for balling. Time will tell.

Immediately upon removing the tick, Gruoch received her treat. Should (when) she get more ticks the same procedure will be followed. Hopefully, she will associate tick removal with getting treats. This strategy worked with #Neachdainn.

We have been lucky this summer, as I've managed to remove all her (previous) ticks before they attached themselves. Black ticks on a white dog are easy to spot. 😃

Canal Life I

One of my favourite locations for photographing #Neachdainn, is now also a favourite with #Gruoch.

This is the southern opening of the Caledonian Canal into Loch Lòchaidh.

For years I tried to get #Neachdainn to use a fabric dog kennel. It was intended for use whilst travelling. No matter what I tried he wouldn't use it. He was happy to use a metal mesh dog crate, but, not a fabric kennel. I even tried a super big one. Never any success.

The big dog kennel is still sitting in the house, although the doorway was blocked. I removed the blockage, yesterday. Within 10 minutes #Gruoch had claimed the kennel as her safe place.

Akbash dogs are guardians, they show no interest in herding. Of that I am glad, as there are many sheep here.

The owner of this puppy has set a buy price of £2,000, which is more than I'd be willing to pay.

Furthermore, if I was to get another Scottie, I'd want one the same size as Neachdainn. #Neachdainn is twice the size of some Scotties. He weighs 16kg, which is about the size of a Springer Spaniel. However, there are so few Scotties for sale I don't think I'd manage to be that choosy.
