Wavelength selection with a genetic algorithm"
If you're interested in #spectroscopy, especially NIR or Raman, or #chemometrics, a suitable selection of wavelength bands is often needed to produce a good statistical model.
Genetic algorithms are optimisation procedures loosely inspired by the mechanism of evolution by natural selection.
In this point, I'm working through an example of variable selection with a genetic algorithm for regression.

Pillars of Creation
Thousands and thousands of stars have formed in this region. This is made plain when examining Webb’s recent #NearInfrared #Camera (NIRCam) #image. In MIRI’s view, the majority of the stars appear missing. Why? Many newly formed stars are no longer surrounded by enough dust to be detected in mid-infrared light. Instead, #MIRI observes young stars that have not yet cast off their dusty “cloaks.”
