I periodically reset my the cache and cookies for #YouTube and each time I do, I am astonished by how stupid the front page of that website is.

To be fair, there is a lot of fascinating and entertaining stuff on YouTube, and my normal experience using it is mostly fine, once it learns I don't want clickbait or thirst traps. But the default site is hot trash.

It's a good argument for a site like #NebulaTV, by the way, which I have happily supported for 3 years now.

One of the things I really like about #nebulaTV is how much Black and Queer content I see there compared to #YouTube . I'm guessing the lack of algorithm prevents the Black and Queer people from being pushed down either in the algo in general or my personal home feed. Anyway, go Nebula! Thanks for showing me videos I wouldn't have found on YouTube.

@trevorflowers Agree. I wish there was a “gift” link feature. Although, for a lot of the people I follow on Nebula, they post the same content on YouTube, but with a delay, possibly. Not all of course because some are #NebulaTV exclusives.

What a cool nerdy explanation video of Micro-electro-mechanical devices- #mems devices - in this case #gyroscope and #accelerometer in your phone. So cool.

In a past life, I worked in the commercialization office of a university, selling rights to our patents. A good chunk of them were MEMS devices - and it was always delightful to learn about these microscopic innovations.

I still recommend #NebulaTV but absolutely be vocal and hold them to a higher standard. Just being "a better YouTube" isn't sufficient and won't withstand the pressure of platform "enshitification".

Fortunately Lindsay Ellis was able to use her privilege to negotiate a right to syndicate her own content hosted on Nebula. I hope this becomes available to all creators there. Then we can build our own discovery features instead of being trapped in a walled garden.

I've been sleeping on #NebulaTV originals, but that's stopping. There are some exceptionally produced and educational videos in that pool.
