Long postmortem piece on #Neeva from the Verge. I played with it at the time, and I’m not surprised at all that the project failed: the product never made any sense. No, nobody will pay a monthly subscription fee for a web search website, even if it is more private (but merely self-asserted), in particular an unproven one. Post-#neeva update: I have the feeling that the search results at #Kagi are slowly getting better. What I am missing at the moment? It would be great if you didn't have to choose either Germany OR International for "Region", but could select several individually weighted regions.

So #Neeva the #search engine is dead, I liked it because it really felt like I could tailor the search results and exclude a lot of the spammy websites with poor quality like quora. Do any of you know any other search engines that do something similar?

@jorge @yerald never heard of #kagi but feels like now defunct #neeva. I worry about having to have a login and share info. I’ll have to read more and take a close look at their privacy policy.

@shantini #Neeva was a good search engine. It's such a shame that it's gone now.
I haven't decided on a replacement as of now. At the moment I'm trying #BraveSearch and it seems solid with its own search index.
I don't really trust companies that build crypto stuff in their browser though.

My problem with #Nona and also #Kagi is, I can't just use them in incognito tabs without being logged in

Vermisse #neeva nach einer Woche noch immer sehr. Aber #Kagi und #nona in Kombination helfen recht gut drüber weg (Auch wenn beide nicht ganz an die Qualität der Suchergebnisse von Neeva rankommen).

A lesson in trusting corpo controlled tech: #Neeva was bought out by #Snowflake and no longer works.
Who knows what they are doing with the user data now.

@randomgeek #Neeva was nice but they tried chasing the “#AI” dragon’s tail like every other #SearchEngjne now trying to be an “#AnswerEngine,” ran out of funding runway and closed shop a month ago.

At least they had their own spider bot and index, unlike #DuckDuckGo. Probably contributed to the above collapse

#Kagi is working well for me so far as a #Neeva replacement. All of their pages are noticeably fast and responsive, and the search results are good. Only complaint is their browser extension for Chromium browsers took some fiddeling to get working in Vivaldi and have my default search actually switch, but other than that it’s been smooth sailing.

It's especially interesting to see #neeva the search engine in there. That will be a test of the #EU as much as Neeva,

With a search engine, the EU will have to give marks for effort, because it's practically impossible for a #search company to get this right all the time.

With the news that #Neeva is closing next week, i’ve been looking around at potential ad free and private search engines. I’m trialing #Kagi and early impressions are good. #searchengines #privacy #adfree
