Flies turning to booze was unexpected. Perhaps flies experience the feeling of being parasitised? At least larvae consume more alcohol when so, as a form of self-medication to kill parasitoid wasps.

Slovenia, the country where bees are queens.

The first European Union member state to ban neonicotinoids, this Central European nation uses beekeeping as a means of raising awareness about the importance of biodiversity.

Since 2022, Slovenian beekeeping culture has been on UNESCO's representative list of intangible cultural heritage.

This is insane.

With #Brexit, England's #SugarBeet farmers lost legal protections against cheap #SugarCane imports, and the Brexiteer government exacerbated the problem by agreeing to massive tariff-free quotas of cane.

Now said government os, contrary to European environmental norms, sanctioning the continued use of a bee-killing insecticide designed to target aphids that dine on beet leaves.

Lunacy.
