RT @FIDE_chess: Ding Liren: "I'm quite relieved. The moment Ian resined the game was a very emotional moment. I couldn't control my feelings. I know myself, I will cry and burst into tears. It was a tough tournament for me. I would like to thank my friends." #NepoDing

Congrarulations to Chinese Grand Master Ding on becoming World Chess Champion.
I've seen a few people saying he only won because the previous champion, Magnus Carlsen, declined to play. I say, you got to be in it to win it!
I've seen a few people saying that the quality of the match wasn't as great as with Magnus involved. Well, even Magnus said this match was a different dynamic to his matches, where players tried to close positions down rather than take risks to keep the position alive.
I can't understand why people who are nowhere near as good as Ding are taking shots at him less than a day after he scores the biggest win of his life. He's World Champion, he played better overall chess than his opponent during the match which was a spectacular delight for the fans.
Great work Ding, and congratulations on becoming the 17th World Chess Champion!

What a #WCC23 #chess match! Ding going for it all in the last rapid tiebreak was right out of a fictional playbook for the most exciting possible match. I still wish the match weren’t decided in rapid games, but at least it wasn’t blitz or Armageddon (ugh)! And those last moments at the board with Nepo…devastation. All the drama you could ask for. #NepoDing
♟️ Since everybody is talking about #Ding Liren being the First Chinese World Chess Champion - and I see that the press conference repeats this - it would be more accurate to say that he is the First Chinese *Male* World Chess Champion.
In 1991, Xie Jun defeated Maia Chiburdanidze and became the first Chinese Women's Chess Champion, ending over a decade of dominance of Soviet players. She kept the title until 1996.

#nepoding we have a winner 👏👏👏😀
Congratulations Ding with a brilliant end game finish under the immense time pressure of the 4th rapid game.
Ding had the guts and the fighting spirit to play for a win in a basically drawn position, and not take the repetition that would have brought the Blitz phase of the tie-break. Bravo! What a courage in such a decisive situation! #NepoDing #Chess #WorldChessChampionship

Fourth rapid game #NepoDing and this must be the saddest White bishop I've seen in a long time...
Nach zwei Schnellpartien steht es im Tie-Break 1:1. Zwei ausgespielte Remis.

Nepo and Ding are doing the chess equivalent of swashbuckling. Pretty wild game.
