Habt ihr eure Windows Maschinen bereits auf Windows 11 geupdated?
Ich hardere ja noch etwas mein Gaming Windows zu aktualisieren, weil mir einige (vor allem datenschutzrelevante) Sachen stark missfallen (thems offline Account bspw)
Jedoch über kurz oder lang komme ich ja nicht drum herum und mehr als die spiele zicken, die unter Linux nicht (gut genug) laufen, passiert da auch nicht.

Was meint ihr? 🤓

@knasher I was knee deep in a SQL script with multiple nested queries and some wicked joins, and the DBAs didn’t even mention that our instance was queued in a test server, until they switched us back to the live prod-server and it wiped out all the code. Work FINALLY upgraded my laptop! I went from an 8th gen i5, to a 12th gen i7. This sucker is TINY and SO fast! I love it! I can work so fast now! 😂

I hope I don't get tomato's thrown at me for this: Windows 11 UI is really nice. It reminds me strongly of many modern Linux UI (though I suspect they were competing with Apple). I like a centered taskbar and I prefer how it organizes apps to the old method. It also has an easy-to-use window group organizer, which I REALLY like. Beyond the UI, I'm ambivalent. If I recall it does more spying and advertising than 10, which was already obnoxious. #microsoft #linux #apple #nerdtalk

I cancelled the order and bout an LG Ultragear 32" while it was sale. Great price, but after purchasing it, I realized I had no idea where I'd put the thing. 27" is okay but 32" for a computer monitor is massive! I'm boasting a bit but I'm really having to think about rearranging my stuff to find a place for it.
Between the laptop and monitor, this is quite possibly the nicest computer setup I've ever owned. All bought used or steeply discounted. 😂

The other thing I got was a 2nd monitor. My desktop setup always had 2 monitors and I feel restricted with just 1 screen now (I'm spoiled). Original I was getting a 27" View Sonic Elite, but Amazon totally fibbed on the delivery date (on purchase it was a week but after ordering it wasn't until a month later).

One of the complaints against this laptop is the poor thermal paste performance, which leads to the GPU/CPU heating up faster, spinning the fans sooner, making the whole system sound like a jet engine. I hate loud laptops! So even though it felt a little risky, I decided to cut off the problem at the source instead of waiting.

Besides expanding my hard drive storage, I also popped off the the GPU/CPU fan & heatsinks. I cleaned the fans a bit & changed the thermal paste. I've changed thermal paste on desktops, this was my first time on a laptop. Props to Gigabyte for making the whole process super simple (every screw was numbered so I couldn't miss which ones needed taking out).

The G5 has a nVidia RTX 3060 (6 GB). Not the top of the line but a solid mid-range mobile card. It can play just about anything I throw at it. What's even better is it has two NVMe m.2 slots and a 2.5" hard drive slot, with a max storage of 6TB. I put a Silicon Power m.2 hard drive in the free slot, so I now have 1.4TB. I might buy a 2.5" hard drive down the road, those are just going to get cheaper and cheaper with the rise of m.2 drives.

After the sale of our house, after putting money aside for God & taxes, we saved some for our own fun. I bought a Gigabyte G5 (KC, 240hz screen) on eBay to replace my 10+ year old Dell Latitude (also bought on eBay). I really do like my Dell, it was a top of the line business model in it's hay day, but the graphics card is ancient. Playing simple Steam games was pushing it!
